It's been rumored that the 2027 Colorado will get a more powerful 2.7L I4 engine and in looking at the builds for the various 2027 Colorado "Captured Test Fleet" trucks that have been built, the builds show the following:
L4B - ENGINE GAS, 4 CYL, 2.7L, L4,-DI, DOHC, DICP, HEAT & DVCV-TURBO, ALUM, GEN 1
In the previous 2024 and 2025 model years, the engine designation was L3B. Official power output is still pending release from GM.

- August 6, 2026: Dealers can begin entering preliminary order data.
- September 17, 2026: First official dealer orders are anticipated to open.
- October 19, 2026: Scheduled start of regular production (SORP).
